Handstand Lab

Privacy Policy

We collect
very little.

Last updated: 2026-06-03

This Privacy Policy describes how Handstand Lab (the “Service” or “App”) handles information. The Service is published by Michael MacDonald(“we”, “us”).

In short. We aim to keep as much information on your device as possible. Video and audio captured by the camera or microphone stay on your phone unless you choose to send a specific session to us for support. We collect what we need to run an account, keep your training records in sync, understand which features get used, and respond to feedback — and no more than that.

What we collect

Without an account

You can use the core functions of the App without signing in — we don’t require an account. Without one, we don’t collect your email, your name, or your training records. Two things below still apply whether or not you sign in: the anonymous usage analytics, and anything you choose to send us through the feedback form.

Anonymous usage analytics

To understand which features people actually use, the App records anonymous product-usage events — for example, which screens you open and which actions you take. These events are tied to a random per-install identifier, never to your account, name, email, or any advertising identifier, and they contain no video, no audio, and none of the text you type. This happens whether or not you sign in. We don’t use it to track you across other apps or websites.

When you sign in

Signing in is optional and exists so your training records can persist if you reinstall the App and sync across your devices. When you choose to sign in, we collect:

  • Your email address.
  • The sign-in provider you used (Apple, Google, or email).
  • A name, only if Apple or Google share one with us, or if you provide one yourself.
  • A unique account identifier we use to associate your records with your account.

When sync is enabled

When you are signed in, the App syncs records of your training sessions and the individual handstands inside them — durations, timestamps, and the settings you used. These records contain no media: no video, no audio, no images, no recordings of any kind. Video, audio, and images captured by the camera or microphone stay on your device — with one exception you control, described under “Sending a session for support” below.

When you send feedback

If you use the in-app feedback form, we receive the message you write and, if you add one, a reply-to email address. We also attach your app version, a device identifier, the category you picked, and — when you’re signed in — your account identifier, so we can reproduce and follow up on what you reported. Feedback is emailed to our support inbox and stored so we can act on it.

Sending a session for support

Settings → Diagnostics includes an “Upload Session” option. If you tap it for a specific session, the App sends that session to us — its video recording, the extracted clips, the pose data, and diagnostic logs — so we can investigate a problem you’re having. This is the only case where recordings leave your device, and it happens only when you choose to send a session. We use it solely to debug the issue and store it with our file-storage provider.

What we do with what we collect

  • Provide and maintain the Service.
  • Authenticate you when you sign in.
  • Send transactional email related to your account (for example, sign-in codes).
  • Understand which features are used, through anonymous analytics.
  • Respond to your feedback and investigate problems you report.
  • Comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell your information. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not use it to build a profile of you for marketing.

Permissions the App requests

  • Camera. Used to record while you train.
  • Microphone. Used to capture audio while you train.
  • Photo Library (add).Used only when you choose to save a clip from the App to your device’s Photos.

You can grant or revoke any permission in iOS Settings → Handstand Lab. The App will continue to function, but features that depend on a revoked permission will be unavailable.

Where information is processed

We use third-party service providers to authenticate accounts, send transactional email, host the database that stores synced records, run the anonymous usage analytics, and store the sessions you choose to upload for support. These providers process information only on our behalf, under contractual data-processing terms that require them to protect it consistent with this policy. Information may be processed in jurisdictions outside your own.

Retention and deletion

  • Your synced records are kept while your account exists.
  • You can delete your account from inside the App (Settings → Account → Delete Account). Deletion permanently removes your account and your synced records from our servers. Local copies on your device are not affected by account deletion; uninstalling the App removes those.
  • Email metadata held by our email provider is retained per that provider’s standard terms.

Children

The Service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.

Your rights

Subject to applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a portable copy of the information we hold about you, and to object to or restrict its processing. Because the information we hold is what you provided at sign-in plus the records you generated by using the App, the simplest way to exercise these rights is the in-App account-deletion path described above. For anything beyond that, email us — see Contact below.

Changes to this policy

If we change this Privacy Policy, we will update the “Last updated” date above and post the new version at this URL. Material changes will be disclosed in the App’s release notes on the App Store.
